  • construction took five years, costing $5,500.
  • By 1830, building was finished.
  • Historically used for community needs e.g. building was used for military purposes during the Civil War.
Ancient City Baptist Church

    History:
  • founded in 1887.
  • In 1887 Baptists gathered in an opera house on St. George St. forming what is now Ancient City Baptist Church.
  • Henry Falgler gave the plot of land for it to be built, worth $5,000.

St. Photios Greek Orthodox National Shrine

   History:

  • institution of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America
  • dedicated to the first colony of Greek people who came to the U.S. in 1768.
  • depicts the development of the Greek Orthodox Church in America.

History:

  • built in 1672 by the Spanish in St. Aug to defend the Atlantic trade route
  • protected St. Augustine from attackers like pirates, British, etc.
  • it was used as a military prison during the Revolutionary War and obtained three signers of the Declaration of Independence.
